Vicky Chandhok Renounces FMSCI President's Position

Vicky Chandhok, seven time Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India President, has announced that he will not stand for re-election as the head of India's motorsport body. Chandhok has presided as FMSCI president during a period when Indian motorsports has grown rapidly and emerged in the world motorsports scene. And Chandhok has been instrumental in its growth.

Vicky Chandhok first became president of FMSCI in 2005 and remained at the helm till 2007. After the first three year stint Chandhok was once again elected president in 2009 and has remained there until now.

"This is a difficult decision for me but after being President for seven out of the last nine years, and living and breathing Indian motorsport on a daily basis, it is time to pass the baton on," Chandhok commented.

During his tenure, Chandhok helped FMSCI build strong relations with international bodies such as FIA and was one of the key persons responsible for bringing Formula 1 to India. It was also during his term that India played host to another major international event, The Asia Road Racing Championship. Other local racing events such as JK National Karting Championship, JK Racing India Series, MRF 16000 and MRF Challenge 2013 also flourished when he was president, along, while manufacturer sponsored events Volkswagen Polo R Cup and Toyota Etios Trophy also made a foothold.

Speaking during FMSCI's 40th annual general meeting in Chennai, just ahead of the election, Chandhok announced his decision, but he will continue to be a member of the FMSCI managing council.
