Carmakers Unveil New Cars At Beijing Auto Show
The Beijing Auto Show which opened today saw a long list of new cars being involved. There is little doubt among carmakers about China being their most crucial market for the next decade and they have shown that by the number of special cars that appear to have been built considering the Chinese car buyer.
Chrysler the American carmaker has unveiled a dragon themed Jeep variant. Mike Manley, Chrysler's chief operating officer for Asia said: “To be successful in China, we must tailor or vehicles to the specific tastes of Chinese customers.”
Ford unveiled its EcoSport compact SUV. Powered by a 1-litre EcoBoost engine the EcoSport is set to be launched in India too. Fiat has unveiled a new sedan called Viaggio. This model has been designed along with local partner Guangdong Automobile. This new Fiat car will go on sale in China later this year.
Lamborghini, the Italian sports carmaker has unveiled its first premium SUV Urus in Beijing. This is just a concept version with the production ready version expected to be launched may be in 2014 or 2015.
Another notable premium car unveiled at the Beijing Auto show Is the extended wheel base version of the Phantom Series II. The British carmaker had previously unveiled the saloon, coupe and convertible variants of the new Phantom Series II but kept the EWB Phantom for Beijing as most Chinese buyers of Rolls-Royce prefer to buy the bigger Phantom.
Chinese carmakers such as Chery and BYD have also launched new cars to cater to the local market. More model launches are expected this week as the show will be opened for public only on Friday.
