Car Warranty: A Guide To Which Brand Provides The Best Warranty In India

Gone are the days when mechanical failures were fixed and mended on older models of cars. The current generation cars are more reliable, however, there will be instances of components which fail and require replacements.

These components come at a price and to have this covered, gives you peace of mind. A warranty provided by a car manufacturer helps you to achieve a certain assurance of the quality of your car.

Here is the list of car warranty provided by the car manufacturers in India.

Maruti Suzuki

Maruti provides a primary warranty for a period of 24 months or 40,000kms (whichever comes first) from the date of delivery of your vehicle.

The company provides extended warranty as well called ‘Forever Yours', this can be extended for one or two years.

The extended warranty covers themechanical and electrical breakdown of parts which includes engine, gearbox, brakes, steering, electrical items, etc. This can be availed before the primary warranty ends.

A choice of two extended warranty is offered by Maruti; EW Gold and EW Platinum. EW Gold is for three years or 60,000kms (whichever comes first) from the date of delivery of your vehicle.

As for the EW Platinum, this is on the 3rd and 4th year or 80,000kms (whichever comes first) from the date of delivery of your vehicle.

Hyundai Motor India

Hyundai provides a primary warranty of 2 years to 4 years depending on the model. In fact, their mileage warranty on some of the models like Grand i10, Elite i20, Verna, and Xcent come with anunlimited warranty.

The company provided extended warranty as well which covers mechanical and electrical items under normal use and maintenance.

Hyundai offers extended warranty ranging from the3rd year to 5th year and the mileage warranty depends on the year. The prices of these will differ from model to model and the time when the extended warranty has been opted for.

Honda Cars India

Honda offers a default warranty of 2 years or 40,000kms (whichever is earlier) for mechanical and electrical items.

The Japanese car manufacturer also provides two types of warranty called ‘Anytime Warranty' which is covered for 1 year or 20,000kms and can opt till 7 years or 1,00,000kms. The unique feature is that you can opt for it even if the standard or extended warranty expires.

Honda also offers the extended warranty which can be availed before the existing warranty ends. You can opt for 3rd year or 60,000kms, and4th year up to 80,000kms and you can even club for both 3rd and 4th year up to 80,000kms.

And 4th and 5th year up to 1,00,000kms. Please note the prices will differ depending on the models, also, go through the terms and conditions for better knowledge of the extended warranty.

Mahindra & Mahindra

Mahindra & Mahindra

Mahindra offers aprimary warranty of 3 years/100,000kms (whichever is earlier).

The company provides anextended warranty which it calls it as ‘Shield', which can be extended with the choice of 4th year and 5th year. Prices differ based on the models and the type of cover from the warranty.

Tata Motors

Tata Motors has different types of primary warranty based on the models, below are the details:

- Nano - 4 years/60,000kms
- Tiago/Indica Vista - 2 years/75,000kms + Extended Warranty of 1 year/75,000kms or 2 years/100,000kms
- Aria/Bolt/Zest - 3 years/100,000kms + Extended Warranty for 1 year/150,000
- Safari - 3 years/100,000kms + Extended Warranty of 1 year or 2 years or max of 150,000kms
- Sumo Gold - 3 years/100,000kms (No Extended Warranty)
- Sumo Grande - 3 years/100,000kms and Yellow board commercial vehicle - 2 years/75,000kms
- Indica Indigo - 2 years/75,000kms + Extended Warranty of 1 year/ 2 years or 150,000kms

    Toyota India

    Toyota has a 3 years/100,000kms as standard across its portfolio. As for the Extended Warranty, the company has different plans under the scheme.

    In Plan 1, you can avail up to 5 years/180,000kms, this is broken down in 4th year and 5th year with various premium payments based on kilometer running.

    As for the Plan 2, you can avail up to 7 years/140,000kms and in addition you get roadside assistance coverage as well.

    Ford India

    Ford India offers 2 years/100,000kms as standard warranty across its range of vehicles manufactured post-January 1, 2008.

    The Extended Warranty can be availed for 3/4/5 years or 100,000kms, whichever is earlier. As per the current website update, the Endeavour does not have the option for 4th and 5th-year extension.

    Volkswagen India

    Volkswagen provides 2 years with unlimited kilometers as standard warranty across its vehicles. Also, a 3-year paint warranty on all VW vehicles, 6-year anti-corrosion perforation warranty on Polo and Vento and 12-year anti-corrosion perforation warranty on Jetta, Passat, and Beetle.

    As for the Extended Warranty, you can avail 1 year/80,000kms or 2 years/100,000kms (whichever is earlier).

    Renault India

    Renault India

    Renault, the French car manufacturer provides 2 years/50,000kms. Renault India's website does not have any information on the details of the extended warranty and requests to check with the dealers.

    Nissan India

    Nissan India

    Nissan India offers 2 years/50,000kms as astandard warranty on its range of vehicles. As for the extension of the warranty, Nissan provides additional 2 years/80,000kms.

    Also, the company provides free roadside assistance, free towing, and no limit on the number of claims upon availing extended warranty.

    Fiat India

    Fiat India

    Fiat provides 3 years of warranty, however, on the kilometers it depends on the model. The Fiat Linea and Punto come with 100,000kms and the commercial use of the cars will come with 60,000kms.

    The warranty can be extended for 2 years/150,000kms for both the vehicles, there is confirmation on the commercial vehicles on the same models, your dealer can confirm the same.

    Chevrolet India

    Chevrolet India

    Chevrolet provides 3 years/100,000kms as standard warranty across its vehicles. As for the extended warranty, an additional 2 years/50,000kms.

    You can also opt for 4th or 4th and 5th year extension as well, you can either extend it for the 4th year/additional 25,000kms. The consolidated 4th and 5th year/additional 50,000kms.

    Toyota offers one of the best comprehensive warranty packages along with the Extended Warranty. One of the reasons for the Japanese car majors offer is simply because of the long running engines of their vehicles.

    Companies like Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Motors, Ford India, Volkswagen provide kilometer warranty up to 100,000kms which is commendable.

    Maruti Suzuki might have lower years and kilometers, however, the after sales service and the resale value of their vehicles compensate for the cost overall.

    As for new entrants Renault and Nissan, the offer is better in paper compared to tried and tested cars from Maruti.
