Toyota Kirloskar Resumes Production On A Limited Scale
Toyota Kirloskar Motor Private Ltd, the Indian subsidy of the world's largest automaker, has reportedly restarted production at its two plants in Bidadi, outside Bangalore, albeit on a small scale.
Early reports claimed that the management has managed to start single shift operations at its manufacturing plants with the help of 1000 contract workers and 2000 odd apprentices.

However, according to latest updates, Toyota has refused this claim stating production has indeed been restarted, but it has not hired contract workers to do the job. The carmaker says the limited production is currently being handled by non-unionised team members most of whom are supervisors and engineers.

Toyota Kirloskar declared a lockout on Mar 16 following worker unrest. The workers union members are demanding a pay hike of Rs 4,000, but the management is only ready to increase the pay by 3,050.

The lockout was lifted on March 24, but the workers have refused to return back to work as they are not ready to sign an undertaking of good conduct.
The two Toyota Kirloskar manufacturing facilities combined have the capacity to roll out 310,000 vehicles annually. A resolution to the problem is yet to be reached.
