Hyundai Motor Posts 5% Jump In April Sales
Hyundai Motor India, India's leading car exporter posted a 5% jump in April sales. The Korean carmaker managed to sell 54,606 cars this April as against the 52,057 units it sold in the corresponding period last year.
Hyundai's domestic sales in India rose by 10.9% to 35,070 units from the previous April's sales of 31,636 units. The sales jump is not enormous considering the expectations Hyundai had on its recently launched small car Eon. Hyundai's director for marketing and sales Arvind Saxena has blamed the continued market sentiment along with price hikes following the union budget for the slow sales.

Mr Saxena said: “Consumer confidence continues to be weak, prices went up following the excise hike in the Union budget and interest rates are yet to come down. Given the present conditions it’s a challenging market.”
Hyundai managed to be in the black in April 2012 mainly due to the improved sales of its hatchbacks. The total sales of hatchbacks stood at 44,891 units. Sales of sedans Verna and Accent stand at 9,579 units. Hyundai sold 70 units of the Santa Fe premium SUV and 67 units of the new Fluidic Sonata.
Hyundai's exports in April fell marginally by 4.3% from 20,421 units in April 2011 to 19,536 units. Hyundai exports its i10 small car to several countries in Europe, Africa, South East Asia and Australia.
