Honda To Launch Brio In September

Honda, the Japanese carmaker, was forced to delay the launch of the Brio hatchback after a severe earthquake and tsunami hit Japan. The natural disaster not only damaged its plants but also destroyed several plants of parts makers. The ensuing drop in parts availability forced Honda to defer the launch of the Brio.
The carmaker has now said the situation in Japan was getting close to normalcy indicating a possible launch of the Brio. The month of August is set to see several new cars being launched in India. We have already reported the launches of the Tata Aria, Audi A6 and the Nissan Sunny. The launches of the Maruti Suzuki Swift and the Volkswagen Passat are also scheduled in August. We believe Honda did not want to be buried in the ensuing publicity blitz of these cars.
The Honda Brio will not get a diesel engine. Instead it will be powered by a 1.2-litre 90bhp i-VTEC engine. The small size and the resulting small weight will mean the petrol engine will be able to lug the Brio effortlessly while delivering a promising fuel economy.
The Honda Brio is expected to do what The new Toyota Etios Liva hatchback has done to Toyota. The Honda Brio is expected to be priced just over Rs.4 lakhs and this model will be the first car from Honda to be sold in the volume car segment. Honda's sales have dipped considerably in the past few months. Honda is offering a massive discount of Rs.1.75 lakhs for its Jazz hatchback to boost sales.
