Maruti's 800 Replacement On Alto Platform

Maruti 800
Maruti Suzuki, India's largest carmaker reached its current position with the iconic Maruti 800. The car that defined the Indian small car is in the last leg of its life with the carmaker selling it only in tier III cities. The Maruti Suzuki Alto has replaced the M800 as the highest selling car in India. The carmaker is now all set to replace the M 800 with a new model that will also be powered by a 800cc engine, albeit better in terms of performance and fuel economy.

There have been reports about the Maruti 800 replacement since many days. But Maruti Suzuki has officially only acknowledged that it was indigenously developing a new 800cc engine that will be used in a new model. A senior Maruti Suzuki official while speaking to this reporter during the launch of the Swift hatchback said the new car will be built on the platform of the Alto and it will be priced slightly higher than the Alto.
