Mahindra Verito: New Name Same Performance

Following the end of the joint venture between Mahindra and Renault, the Indian carmaker decided to sell the compact sedan with a new name – Verito. The Mahindra Verito retains Renault's 1.5-litre CRDi diesel engine as well as the 1.4-litre petrol engine. Mahindra is yet to make any announcement of building a hatchback.
The Verito has had a better than expected run in the market after it was rebranded as a Mahindra. With a starting price of Rs.5.34 lakhs, the Verito is the cheapest model in the Mahindra model line-up. Despite its price, the Verito does not have crampy interiors. It has been praised from all quarters for its spacious cabin and comfortable seats. It would have been a class above its competition only if its design was less boxy.
Performance wise the Verito offers a fuel economy of 19.3kmpl for the diesel. Mahindra has said it will launch a sub-compact Verito that will be shorter than four metres. This will reduce the excise duty on the car and hence the price also will be lower. Mahindra will also launch a premium version of the Verito Sedan too.
