Japanese two-wheeler maker Kawasaki has unveiled its new retro-styled motorcycle, the Z900RS at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show. Along with the Z900RS, the company has also revealed the new Ninja 250 and Ninja 400 faired motorcycles.

The Z900RS borrows its design cues from the iconic Z1 and it is the only retro-themed motorcycle in the Kawasaki's product portfolio.

The Kawasaki Z900RS looks simple and elegant with the classic round headlamp design and the twin-pod instrument cluster. The motorcycle also gets a teardrop fuel tank design borrowed from the Z1 and the bodywork is minimal which adds to the classic look of the motorcycle.

The Z900RS draws power from the existing 948cc four-cylinder engine which is also deployed in the Z900. The engine is slightly detuned to produce 110bhp and 72.53Nm of torque. The same engine on the Z900 churns out 123bhp and 97.9Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox.

Kawasaki has tweaked the frame to accommodate the fuel tank to give the motorcycle a classy look. The motorcycle also features advanced technology in the form of traction control with two riding modes, slip-assist clutch and radial-mounted brake callipers. The Z900 does not get any of these features.

The twin-pod instrument cluster features analog gauges for speed and rpm and an LCD screen between the pods displays all the required information. The handle is wider and higher than the Z900 and the footpegs are forward set which results in an upright riding stance.

The Z900RS is equipped with 41mm adjustable upside down forks at the front and monoshock suspension setup with rebound and pre-load adjustment at the rear. Braking duties are handled by 300mm twin discs up front and 250mm disc at the rear. ABS is offered as standard.

The Z900RS gets 17-inch wheels at both the ends.The kerb weight of the motorcycle stands at 215kg. The motorcycle will be offered in five colour options - Candytone Brown, Candytone Orange, Metallic Spark Black, Metallic Matte Covert Green and Flat Ebony.

The Kawasaki Z900RS is a retro-themed motorcycle inspired by the legendary Z1. The motorcycle looks simple yet menacing at the same time. The retro-styled headlamp, instrument cluster and fuel tank take you back in time to the era of classic motorcycles. Kawasaki has not revealed its plans to bring the Z900RS to India, but it would be an interesting product in the country.
