BMW F 900 GS Vs Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro: A New Rivalry In India
The BMW F 900 GS and Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro are set to compete in the Indian market. BMW Motorrad India has opened bookings for the F 900 GS and its Adventure variant. These models have already launched internationally, and their specifications are expected to remain unchanged for India.
Engine Specifications
Both motorcycles fall into the premium adventure bike category and are priced similarly. The Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro features a liquid-cooled 888 cc inline three-cylinder engine, delivering 106 bhp at 9,500 rpm and 90 Nm of torque at 6,850 rpm. It is paired with a six-speed transmission.
The BMW F 900 GS also boasts a liquid-cooled engine but with an 895 cc parallel-twin configuration. This engine produces 103 bhp at 8,500 rpm and 93 Nm of torque at 6,750 rpm. Like the Triumph, it comes with a six-speed gearbox.
Chassis Design
In terms of chassis, the Triumph uses a tubular trellis main frame with a fabricated bolt-on aluminium rear subframe. Conversely, the BMW employs a bridge-type frame constructed from steel shells with a bolted-on rear subframe.
Suspension Systems
The suspension setup on the Triumph includes 45 mm upside-down forks with 240 mm travel at the front and a mono-shock suspension with 230 mm travel at the rear. The BMW features slightly different specs: it has 43 mm USD telescopic forks with 230 mm travel in front and a mono-shock rear suspension offering 215 mm travel. Both bikes allow manual adjustments for preload, rebound, and compression damping.
Braking Components
The braking system on the Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro consists of dual 320 mm discs with Brembo callipers at the front and a single 255 mm disc at the rear. The BMW F 900 GS is equipped with dual 305 mm discs on the front wheel and a single 265 mm disc at the back.
Fuel Capacity
The fuel tank capacity differs between these two models. The upcoming BMW ADV has a smaller tank holding up to 15.5 litres of fuel, while the Triumph offers a larger capacity of up to 20 litres.
Electronics and Features
The electronics package on both bikes is advanced but varies slightly. The Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro includes a seven-inch TFT display featuring 'My Triumph' connectivity, six riding modes (Rain, Road, Sport, Off-Road, Off-Road Pro), switchable traction control, and optimised cornering ABS.
The BMW F 900 GS comes with a slightly smaller six-and-a-half-inch TFT display that supports BMW Motorrad connectivity. It offers four riding modes (Rain, Road, Dynamic, Enduro), switchable traction control known as 'Dynamic Traction Control', and BMW's Motorrad ABS Pro system.
