Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 BS6 Deliveries Begin In India
Chennai based motorcycle manufacturer, Royal Enfield, has begun deliveries of its Interceptor 650 BS6 models across the country. The motorcycle made its way to dealerships during February this year. Deliveries have begun without an official launch.
The new Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 BS6 models looking similar to the ones that sported BS4 compliant engines. Outside of a small BS6 stamp on one of the engines cooling fins, the motorcycle does nothing to show that it is BS6 compliant.
In fact, the customary catalytic converter that is seen on most BS6 complaint motorcycles has been installed within the existing exhaust hardware on the motorcycle. While there is a possibility of new maps featured on the ECU, there is no information from Royal Enfield.
The new motorcycles feature a BS6 compliant 647.95cc air/ oil cooled parallel twin engine that produces 47 brake horsepower and 52Nm of torque - similar to the BS4 compliant engines. The engine comes mated to a six-speed manual transmission.
The motorcycle continues to feature dual-channel ABS, a slipper clutch, and 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels that are shod with Pirelli Phantom Sportcomp tyres. Braking duties are handled by a 320mm disc at the front, an a 240mm disc at the rear.
The motorcycle continues to be available in six colour options - Mark Three, Glitter & Dust, Orange Crush, Ravishing Red, Silver Spectre, and Baker Express. The new Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 BS6 models are priced between Rs 2.65 lakh and Rs 2.86 lakh ex-showroom.
In related news, the company has discontinued production of the Trials 350 and 500 models, after just over a year since launch. Royal Enfield has unlisted both the motorcycles from its website as well.
The Trials 350 and 500 featured the company's 346cc and 499cc single-cylinder engines that produce 19.8 brake horsepower/ 28Nm torque; and 26.1 brake horsepower/ 40.9Nm of torque, respectively. Both engines featured a carburetor, and arrived mated to five-speed gearboxes. The motorcycles were priced at Rs 1.62 lakh, and Rs 2.07 lakh, ex-showroom.
