Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 BS-VI Spied Testing In India Ahead Of Launch

Royal Enfield is working on bringing in BS-VI updates to its entire model range ahead of the April 2020 deadline. As part of the model update, the BS-VI version of the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 has been spied testing in the country.

As seen from the spy images by Rushlane, the BS-VI version of the Continental GT 650 comes with little to no cosmetic updates. This is apart from a slight extension to the exhaust pipes and the slightly more elongated pillion seat cover.

The Chennai-based bike manufacturer launched the 650-twins late last year and since then the two motorcycles have become the best-selling products in the segment. Both the 650-twins: Continental GT 650 and the Interceptor 650 are priced highly competitively, with the BS-VI version expected to receive a slight hike in prices.

Currently, both motorcycles are powered by the same 649cc parallel-twin oil-cooled engine. It produces 47bhp and 52Nm of peak torque; mated to a six-speed gearbox. The BS-VI version of the Continental GT seen in the spy pics is expected to be offered a similar power output. The same engine will also be powering the Interceptor 650 as well.

Apart from the 650-twins, Royal Enfield is also working on the BS-VI updates for its other 350 and 500cc models. These products however, will come with an updated engine, chassis, mechanicals and revised styling.

Royal Enfield has already started testing the new models, with images of the motorcycles undergoing testing already doing the rounds multiple times.

Royal Enfield is one of the most popular motorcycle brands in the Indian market. Their 650cc twins are the segment leader in the middle-weight motorcycle segment, rivaling the likes of the Harley-Davidson Street 750 and Street Rod. The company is now said to be working on the BS-VI update, which is expected to go on sale either by late-2019 or early-2020.
