Honda Activa 5G First Look Review - The New Emperor Of Indian Roads
Honda Activa 5G First Look Review. Can the Honda Activa 5G live up to the reputation of its predecessors that have made the Activa the byword for scooters in India?
Japanese two-wheeler giant Honda has launched the Activa 5G in India at a starting price of Rs 52,460 ex-shworoom (Delhi). The Activa has become the scooter of choice for the daily commuter in India knocking the Hero Splendor off its perch as the most popular two-wheeler sold in India (and maybe the world) with Honda selling a record two million units in just seven months last year.
So, does the newly launched Activa 5G have what it takes to live up to the reputation of its predecessors? DriveSpark takes a closer look at the new Honda Activa 5G to find out.
Honda Activa Design & Features
The overall design of the new Honda Activa 5G has not changed much compared to the 4G variant currently on sale in India. Up front, the headlamp may look the same but beneath the glass is a new LED unit.
The new LED headlight on the Activa 5G will hopefully be a lot brighter than the halogen unit on the current scooter and will also consume less power thereby helping efficiency figures. The new LED headlamp and position lamps are a first for the 110cc scooter segment.

The other major design change on the new Activa 5G will be seen by the riders every day as they ride through the city streets.
The second big change comes in the form of the Honda Activa 5G's new instrument cluster which for the first time is a semi-digital instrument cluster which gets an ECO speed indicator, which will help riders to save fuel on the go. The digital display also reminds riders when a service is due.
The new Activa 5G also gets a 4-in-one lock with a seat opening switch which eliminates the need for an extra lock on the side to open up the seat. Getting the seat to unlock is quite easy, simply flick the key from either off or on mode to the seat marker and press the button to the side and the seat pops out of the locked position. this feature was first seen on the newly launched Grazia (you can read our Grazia First Ride Review here) and will be appreciated by customers who pick up the Activa 5G after Honda launches it later this year.
Other features on the new Activa 5G include a metal cover for the muffler, which gives the new scooter a more premium look while a set of hooks, one up front and a retractable one at the rear should help with all the grocery shopping at the end of the week.
The new Honda Activa 5G also gets two new colours options — Dazzle Yellow Metallic and Pearl Spartan Red — in addition to the seven currently offered with the current Activa 4G scooter.
