Kawasaki Plans New Model Launch For India & Local Production
Kawasaki only recently launched its two superbike models ZX-10R and ZX-14R, for INR 15.70 lakhs and INR 16.90 lakhs respectively. Both these bikes are imported. The bikes that are assembled locally include the Ninja 300 and Ninja 650R. The former was launched as a replacement to older Ninja 250R. The company is now planning to reintroduce the baby Ninja as an affordable, entry level Ninja, priced lower than its earlier INR 2.70 lakhs figure.
Not only will a cheaper Ninja expand the company's customer base, it will also enable it to engage its rivals such as KTM more aggressively. The other reason behind Kawasaki's plan is to make better use of its facility.

The brand's local facility has a capacity to manufacture 5,000 units every year. However, the company assembles only 1,500 units at present. It would be easy to go back to assembling the Ninja 250R, thus increasing the profit margin.
In addition, the company is also studying the possibility of launching Kawasaki brands, other than Ninja in India. Speaking to Business Standard Shigeto Nishikawa, deputy managing director, India Kawasaki Motors, said, "We are presently studying what more brands we could launch in India. We have many brands in our portfolio and we need to see which category we could enter."
The other brands that are part of Kawasaki are Vulcan, Concours, KLX and KX. Of the four Vulcan, the cruiser bike brand and Concours, the touring bike brand, are most likely to make an entry into India.
Coming back to the two new Ninja sportbikes, Kawasaki wants to sell these through dedicated dealerships rather than relying on Bajaj Auto dealerships that sell the Ninja 300 and Ninja 650R.
