Honda CBR300R Engine Specifications Revealed

By Ganesh

The new Honda CBR300R was revealed during the China International Motorcycle Trade Exhibition (CIMAMotor) in Chongqing, China earlier this week. The new, larger displacement baby Honda has been launched to take on the mighty Kawasaki Ninja 300. But does the Honda have what it takes? Engine specifications of the CBR300R that have surfaced from CIMAMotor shed light on that.

The upcoming Honda CBR300R will be powered by a 286cc, single cylinder engine, with a 76mm bore and 63mm stroke. In comparison, the CBR250R's 249.6cc engine has 76mm bore and 55mm stroke, which proves the new engine is just a larger version of the existing engine, instead of being a completely new one.

Honda CBR300R's engine will develop 30.4 HP power at 8500 rpm and 27 Nm peak torque at 7250 rpm. To put it into perspective, the existing CBR250R produces 26 HP at 9900 rpm and 22.9 Nm torque at 7400 rpm.

More importantly, this is how those numbers match against its to be rival, current undisputed king of its segment, the Ninja 300. The Ninja's 296cc parallel twin cylinder engine generates quite a bit more power, at 39 HP at 11,000 rpm, but the same 27 Nm peak torque comes at 10,000 rpm.

Another critical factor that could prove to be the deciding factor is the weight. The Honda CBR300R weighs in at 164 kg, with ABS. That's a couple of kilos less than even the CBR250R. In contrast, the Ninja is a heavy weight at 172 kg.

We'll bring you a more detailed comparison once the new Honda is launched in India.
