Gran Turismo 6 Will Turn Any Road Into A Virtual Track
If you love driving cars then you'll also surely have a favourite road. A route that you love to take whenever possible. But due to obvious reason you can never race on those roads no matter how much you would like to. Now though there is a way.
Gran Turismo 6, the Sony Playstation 3 car racing simulation game debuts on December 6 and it brings a feature that will allow you to turn your favourite road into a virtual track in the game. You can then get into a sports car of your choice and drive fast to your heart's content in the game.
The track creator feature was introduced in Gran Turismo 5, but it has been improved in the latest iteration. The game will use GPS data to precisely map the road - turns, elevations and all.

The feature uses a smartphone app that collects all the required data. All you have to do is turn it on and take a drive on any road your choice. The data is then uploaded to Gran Turismo serves where the road is recreated as a virtual track for your to drive and share with other players.

There are a few limitations obviously. The data should be able to precisely recreate any road, but not the surroundings, - scenery or buildings - but we should be able to live with that.
Also, surface area of a virtual track is limited to 20 x 20 kilometers, but that's more than enough space to recreate some of the most famous driving roads including the Transfagarasan Highway in Romania, the Stelvio Pass in Italy or even the Nurburgring.
