Ather Electric Scooter Pushes Stranded Tata Nexon EV – Highlights Instantaneous Torque

The future of mobility in India is being shaped by the soaring adoption rate of electric vehicles (EVs). However, a significant hurdle remains in the form of inadequate charging infrastructure in the country, triggering what is often known as 'range anxiety' among EV owners.

However, the spirit of unity among electric vehicle users is palpable, as an exceptional incident involving an Ather electric scooter assisting a stranded Tata Nexon EV electric SUV confirms this.

Ather Electric Scooter Pushes Tata Nexon EV

The Power Of EV

The impressive spectacle recently unfolded on a bridge, captured on video and shared on X by Ather Energy themselves. An Ather EV owner employed the vehicle's inbuilt torque to push a stranded Tata Nexon EV SUV by balancing one's right leg on the SUV's tailgate.

This showcases the instantaneous torque availability in electric vehicles, which can be employed right from a standstill. Considering the Ather 450X's remarkable torque production of approximately 26 Nm, the event serves as a validation of EV capabilities in real-world situations.

Ather Energy 450: Features & Specifications

The Ather Energy 450 EV scooter, appearing in the video, is part of the phased development series from the Bengaluru-based EV firm. The flagship model, Ather 450X, and the newly launched Ather 450S form the current product line-up from the brand.

Both models have gained significant success in the Indian market, with the Ather 450X electric scooter priced at Rs 1.35 lakh (ex-showroom) and the latter variant prices starting from Rs 1.27 lakh (ex-showroom).

The new Ather 450S boasts of a belt drive motor with a peak power delivery of 7.24bhp and 22Nm of torque. It exhibits a top speed of 90 kmph in Sport mode, with slightly reduced velocity in Eco and Ride modes.

A 2.9 kWh lithium-ion unit powers the scooter, offering an ARAI-certified range of 115 kilometres on a full charge. However, its actual operational range in real-world conditions approximates 90 kilometres.

Ather Energy's Financial Picture

While Ather Energy's products have created a buzz in the EV sector, there is some concern about the firm's financial health. Per its latest regulatory filing, losses swelled to a staggering Rs 865 crore during the 2022-23 fiscal year, which is more than 2.5 times higher than the preceding year. This implies a remarkable loss of about Rs 63,000 on each Ather 450X sold.

In conclusion, the timely intervention of one EV driver to help another stranded one showcases the inherent power and capability of EVs, and stands testimony to the spirit of camaraderie among EV users. Besides the difficulties, a thriving electric vehicle market still carries some financial risks.

However, given the current pace of acceptance for electric transportation and the urgent necessity for eco-friendly means of commute, the electric vehicle industry in India has an optimistic outlook and a future ablaze with potential.
