VW Taigun For India At Auto Expo 2014
This news is not new, yet exciting. Yet another compact SUV model will arrive in India in the near future and it will be previewed for the first time in the country during next month's Auto Expo.
Volkswagen Taigun, the compact concept SUV that was showcased at the Sao Paulo Motor Show in 2012, has been planned for India and will be the German automaker's first SUV model here.

Based on the Up! platform, the Taigun is a sub-4 meter compact SUV that will direct competition to Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster. The Taigun concept from South America measured 3.86 meters long, 1.43 meters wide, but made up for its compact overall size with a wheelbase that measured 2.47 meters, making room for a spacious cabin.

The Taigun also has a spacious 280 liters boot that can be expanded to 987 liters by folding the rear seats. The vehicle also features split boot door for convenience.
For Brazil, VW introduced the Taigun fitted with a 1.0 liter, 3 cylinder turbocharged, direct fuel injected petrol engine, connected to a 6 speed manual transmission. This engine is capable of 110 PS power and 175 Nm of torque.

VW Taigun has a claimed top speed of 175 km/h and 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 8.2 seconds. The compact SUV weighs a mere 985 kg, contributing towards fuel savings. The vehicle is said to deliver a mileage of 21 kmpl.
For India, however, VW is likely to fit the Taigun with a new 1.2 liter turbocharged, fuel injected, 4 cylinder petrol engine. Transmissions offered could be a 6 speed manual and a DSG automatic. The Taigun in India will most definitely be only front wheel driven.

VW Taigun is a compact SUV with a rugged crossover look that resembles its larger cousin, the Tiguan, another SUV that is being seriously considered for India. As such, the Taigun features roof rails, protective side sills and front and rear skid plates. Having said that, VW may give these exterior features a miss in the the production model coming to India to cut down on cost.
VW Taigun will be placed between the Polo hatchback and Vento sedan in India.
