Toyota Fortuner: New Variants To Be Launched - Rumour

Toyota Fortuner could soon become more affordable with the launch of a new base variant and for those looking for more, it could also come with a new top-of-the-line variant.

According to Autocar, Toyota is looking to expand the Toyota Fortuner range with two new variants in addition to the existing three.

At present, the Fortuner comes with only a single engine option - a 3.0-litre, 4-cylinder, D-4D, turbo diesel, rated at 170 bhp at 3600 rpm and 343 Nm of torque at 1400 rpm.

This engine powers rear wheel drive, 5-speed manual gearbox equipped base variants, an automatic transmission equipped 2WD mid variant, and a 4WD range topper, with manual transmission.

At present, the Fortuner range starts at INR 21.81 lakh and peaks at INR 23.41 lakh.

According to the report, Toyota will introduce a new 2WD, manual transmission-equipped base variant, powered by a 2.5-liter diesel engine, most likely from the Innova.

While in the Innova the 2.5-litre diesel develops 100 horsepower, the engine would be tuned to produce 142 horsepower to compensate for the added weight of the Fortuner.

On the other hand, the new range topping variant will continue to be powered by the 3.0-litre diesel engine, but will be coupled with the automatic transmission.

Autocar says the new base variant will cost roughly INR 1 lakh less than the current base variant, at INR 20.82 lakh, while the top-end variant would cost about a lakh more than the existing range topper, at over Rs 24 lakh.

The new Toyota Fortuner variants would be introduced right before the festive season.
