Tesla Model X Production To Begin In Fall 2014
California based electric car maker Tesla will begin production of its second product, the Model X, an SUV, towards the end of this year. The company confirmed this in an email sent to customers who have already reserved the vehicle.
The Tesla Model X was originally scheduled to enter production in 2013, but the date was pushed back to 2014 because the company decided to concentrate on developing the market for the Model S.

Another reason postponing the launch of the Model X was Tesla's decision to repay the $465 million loan to the U.S. Energy Department, five years ahead of schedule. Tesla will repay the entire loan by the end of 2017, as against 2022, which was the previously set time period.

In its email, Tesla says that the production version of the Model X will exceed the promises it first made when they showcased the SUV as a concept. The Model X will "deliver a level of functionality and practicality that will exceed what you saw on the concept vehicle," Tesla states.

Tesla also confirms that the production model will provide all-wheel drive as standard feature and a third row of seat as optional. The electric SUV will also retain the "falcon wing" doors from the concept.
"In the fall, we'll start building Model X prototypes on a newly expanded and integrated production line at our factory in Fremont, CA," the email states. Deliveries will begin in early 2015.
