Volkswagen has previewed the 2015 Passat sedan through newly released sketches, which are accompanied with a few details coming out of Germany.

The all new Passat is a sportier looking sedan compared to its predecessor. To be built on the MQB platform, the new Passat has a distinct looking grille, sharper looking headlamps, which, at least in the sketches, look like they are an extension of the grille.

This new engine will be paired to a new seven-speed DSG transmission, specifically designed for transversally mounted powertrains. Power will be transferred to an an all-wheel drive system.

A plug-in hybrid version of the new Passat will also be launched, but at a later time, sometime in 2015. From these numbers it is clear that the hybrid system is the same unit that powers the Golf GTE.

The 2015 Volkswagen Passat will be launched in Europe towards the end of this year. The new Passat will also come to India to fill in the place left empty after the current Passat was discontinued. But a launch is only likely to happen in 2015.
