Mercedes-Benz AMG GT Name, Launch Date Confirmed; Interior Images Out

Mercedes-Benz has officially confirmed the name of its SLS AMG replacement as AMG GT. The official statement also confirms that the AMG GT will make its global debut in fall of 2014, at this year's Paris Auto Show.

To be powered by a 4.0-litre turbocharged V8 engine, with different variants getting different power tuning, the AMG GT has been developed keeping Porsche 911 as the benchmark.

"[The AMG] GT will line up in a new segment - and it will make the dream of the authentic Mercedes-AMG sports car come true," states Mercedes-Benz.

The AMG GT will be more affordable as Mercedes claims, but only relative to the SLS AMG. While the SLS AMG range started at about $200,000, the AMG GT is likely to cost about half that, which is still not too cheap.

From the two images of the AMG GT's cabin we can see that it is an evolution of the SLS AMG's interior and seems more in tune with the cabin design of the latest AMG models.

The four prominent central climate-control vents, the touch sensitive COMAND controller, the floating design touch screen display infotainment system and the AMG Drive unit control buttons, arranged like the cylinders of a V8 engine are some of the notable cabin features seen in the images.
