Maruti Celerio AMT Waiting Period Grows To Over Half A Year
Demand for Maruti Celerio continues to grow, particularly for the Automatic Manual Transmission (AMT) variant. Launched at the Auto Expo in February, the Celerio has managed to far exceed expectations of the manufacturer and now has a waiting period that can extend beyond half a year.

The Celerio AMT, which is by far the most popular variant, can be yours if you book now, after as long as 8 months or maybe even more. The high-spec Celerio ZXi with the manual transmission, which offers airbags, has a waiting period of about 4-5 months.
The only Celerio that you can have in about a month's time are the base and mid variants with manual transmission.

The convenience of a clutch-free drive, combined with the affordable pricing seems to be the sole reason for the demand for the AMT, which accounts for half of all Celerio models being sold. Maruti had estimated AMT would account for about 30 percent of Celerio sales prior to launch.

Deliveries of Celerio AMT is being delayed primarily because the AMT unit is being imported from Italy where it is manufactured by Magneti Marelli. The company has found it hard to ramp up production of AMTs to cater to high demand. But things will move faster once Magneti Marelli starts producing AMT units in India.
The AMT units will also find a place in several other Maruti Suzuki models soon, including the Swift, Ritz and DZire, once local production of the clutchless gearbox begins.
