Mahindra To Add 7-8 New Variants To Lineup In 2014
The four wheeler market segment as a whole was sluggish in 2013. The slump in the industry was the result of various factors, but in the end the only segments that did actually manage to grow where those of the entry level cars and the high end luxury vehicles. In fact, the latter not just grew, but thrived. And we have Audi selling over 10,000 units and Mercedes-Benz over 9,000 as evidence.

Meanwhile, the rest of the market had to bear a sluggish growth and even losses. Falling in the latter category was Mahindra & Mahindra. The rather young car manufacturer does not have a strong presence in the sedan or hatchback segment and the Verito Vibe, launched in 2013 failed to perform miracles. But the company is optimistic and plans to expand in 2014 with the introduction of 7-8 new variants.

"We will introduce 7-8 variants in our portfolio," Mahindra & Mahindra Automotive Division Chief Executive Pravin Shah said while speaking to reporters. Shah also portrayed an image of the Indian auto industry that will recover in 2014, who said the bad phase has gone by and the industry would return to normalcy in the new year.
"While an immediate turnaround is not expected without certain policy correction and support, the worst seems to be over," he added.
As far as the new variants are concerned, Mahindra is likely to update its existing model, including the Verito, Verito Vibe and Scorpio. The new Scorpio has even been spotted testing several times. Mahindra is also expected to take a decision about the Quanto crossover which has not been doing so well. The automaker could either replace the vehicle with a new model or give it an extensive makeover.
