Mahindra's Compact SUVs To Rival EcoSport & Duster
Mahindra is said to be developing two new small SUVs along with its Korean subsidiary SsangYong that will rival the Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster respectively.
The compact SUVs are known by their codenames S101 and S102 and the former has even been spotted testing wearing camouflage. Of the two, the S101 will be the smaller, suspected to be the sub-4 meter EcoSport competitor. The S102 is expected to be slightly longer and would take on the likes of Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano.

The S101 will be the first Mahindra badged SUV to be built on a new monocoque chassis, which it will share with SsangYong. The slightly larger S102 is also likely to use the same chassis.
Mahindra could use the 1.5-litre three cylinder petrol engine from the Quanto to power the new SUVs. It is also possible that a new 1.0-litre turbocharged engine that's under development would be offered as an option, similar to the 1.0-litre Ford EcoBoost engine.
It remains to be seen where that will put the new Scorpio and the flagship XUV500 thought in terms of pricing. The all new Scorpio is also undergoing testing and is expected to show similarities with the larger SUV500 for the first time.
Mahindra has been the leader in the Indian SUV segment. However, it has not succeeded to break into the compact SUV category till now, with the Quanto failing to make an impact. Post the launch of the said new SUVs in 2015 the Quanto would be discontinued.
