Jaguar XE With Ingenium Engine Is The BMW 3-Series Rival

Jaguar is flourishing under the tutelage of Tata Motors and the British automaker is slowing starting to extending its reach and presence to newer territories which it previously did not have the strength to compete in.

With the announcement of the Jaguar XE the marquee has made it clear that it is now ready and confident to take on directly the might of the likes of BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen.

Jaguar XE is the company's upcoming entry level luxury/premium vehicle that will take on directly BMW 3-Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Audi A4. Like its competitors, Jaguar XE will be offered in regular, fuel efficient and high performance versions, capable reaching speeds of over 300 km/h.

Jaguar XE has not been showcased at the Geneva Motor Show, though the automaker has revealed a few bits of information. First and foremost, the car will be the first production Jag to be built on the new aluminium monocoque base which debuted with the C-X17 crossover concept. This will not only be a first for Jag, but also a first in this category of cars.

Second, Jaguar XE will be powered by a new family of UK built Ingenium engines which will come in 2.0 liter turbocharged petrol and diesel forms. The engines are said to be efficient and refined, with the most clean unit promising a sub-100 g/km CO2 emission.

More details will about Jaguar XE will be announced later in 2014, but the global launch will only take place by mid 2015.

Speaking at the Geneva Auto Show, Ralf Speth, chief executive officer, Jaguar Land Rover, confirmed: "We announced just a few weeks ago that our new Engine Manufacturing Centre would produce a new family of premium, lightweight, low-friction, low emission four-cylinder petrol and diesel units. The first of our Ingenium engine range will be used in our all-new mid-sized Jaguar sports sedan. That car will be called the Jaguar XE, and it will be unveiled in production form later this year."
