Jaguar F-Type Club Sport: A Faster, Lighter Coupe Rumored

By Ganesh

Jaguar F-Type Coupe is a sports tourer enthusiasts universally seem to love. The car is beautiful to look at and drives just as beautifully. It only seems natural for Jaguar to then consider the idea of building a version of the F-Type Coupe that's solely performance oriented.

According to sources from Australia's Motoring, development of such a model is in a state further advanced than Jaguar would have us believe.

The name being mentioned is F-Type Club Sport. This version of the coupe will be made significantly lighter, automatically making it faster and more agile.

While the F-Type R coupe, the most hardcore version currently offered, weights 1665 kg, the Club Sport could lose about 200 kg. Jaguar is said to be looking to achieve a 0-100km/h time of 3.5 seconds, which would take it into supercar territory.

It's not all about speed of course. The F-Type Coupe is certainly not among the fastest car out there, but it is still considered to be one of the best driver's cars. The same philosophy would go into development of the Club Sport.

F-Type Programme Director Russ Varney says, "it depends on how far you want to take a lightweight F-TYPE. I would like to take it to the point where it's still this car and not a different car. I wouldn't want to turn it into something like an Elise."

Weight saving would be achieved through the regular procress of striping out most things considered unnessary. As such, the Club Sport would be less luxurious and have more carbon fiber and lightweight aluminium parts.

As far as the engine is concerned, the 5.0-litre supercharged V8 rated at 542 hp of power at 6500 rpm and 680 Nm of torque sounds like a natural choice for the Club Sport. However, the supercharged 3.0-litre V6 from the F-Type S is more likely to be chosen over the larger engine because of the weight benefit it brings. The smaller engine is a significant 71 kg lighter. And it can be modified to make it lighter still and get the required amount of additional power.

Nothing is know about when the Jaguar F-Type Club Sport will be made official, if the project goes through all the way.
