Maruti Suzuki April Sales Up Just 3.4%

Maruti Suzuki which launched its Ertiga MPV in April 2012 saw a huge increase in its utility vehicle sales. The carmaker has stated that it sold 5,593 utility vehicles, which include the Ertiga, Gypsy and Grand Vitara, as against just 217 UVs sold in April 2011.
Maruti Suzuki continued to suffer a steep drop in its small car sales. Sales of the M800, alto, A-Star and Wagon R fell by 26.4%. However, the sales fall can be compensated by the 43% increase in sales of compact hatchbacks Swift, Estilo and Ritz.
The Swift DZire saw its sales increase by 31.5% to 15,510 units from April 2011's 11,797 units. However, Maruti Suzuki's other sedan, the SX4 saw a sharp decline in sales of nearly 70% after sales fell from 2102 units in April 2011 to just 634 units. Maruti suzuki's April sales in the van segment also saw a 10% decline with the Omni and Eeco managing 11,723 sales from April 2011's 13,022 unit sales.
Maruti suzuki's total domestic sales for April stood at 90,255 units. Exports saw a marginal increase of 1.5% to 10,160 units.
