Sluggish Markets Plunges Maruti Suzuki Sales 25%

An important reason of Maruti Suzuki's sales going down in July is the discontinuance of the deliveries of the Swift hatchback. The company which is expected to launch the new Swift on August 17th stopped production of the current model in July. With most buyers preferring to opt for the new model the company stopped deliveries of the Swift.
In its statement Maruti Suzuki India said: “Despatch of the old Swift was discontinued in July, 2011. The new Swift being manufactured in the Manesar plant will be launched nationally in mid-August, 2011. As such, while the company despatched 11,828 units of Swift in July 2010, the despatch in July, 2011, was only 348 units."
Maruti Suki also said the production of the Swift DZire sedan was also reduced by 5,471 units in July making a dent in sales. The carmaker is shifting production the Swift DZire to its Gurgaon plant from Manesar.
Maruti Suzuki India said: “During this planned changeover, production of Swift DZire was temporarily affected... Owing to these two planned activities, sales in July, 2011, were negatively impacted by nearly 17,000 units compared to July, 2010."
Here is a break up of Maruti Suzuki's sales in July. While domestic sales stood at 66,504 units marking a decline of 26.20 per cent, the carmaker's exports also fell by 18.12 per cent to 10,743 units. Sales of the Maruti 800, Alto, A-Star, Wagon R, Swift, Ritz and Estillo declined drastically. The one single model that saw its sales increase was the SX4 sedan. Maruti Suzuki sold 32 Kizashi luxury sedans in July.
