Hatchbacks are the in thing among Indian carmakers. They are the highest selling car sector in India and even carmakers who had previously not selling hatchbacks have now started selling them. It is also evident that these carmakers are focusing on the Indian market after the country emerged as the world's fastest growing car market.

India's association with the hatchbacks began with the arrival of the Maruti 800. they loved this small car so much that any new carmaker entering India mimicked the 800. Hatchbacks have now evolved from small metal boxes with little space or comfort to good looking, fuel efficient cars that not only offer better space and comfort but also performance that was once only the fiefdom of sedans.

The Indian car market has seen a new batch of hatchbacks that have got rave reviews from enthusiasts and car buyers alike. The new Maruti Suzuki Swift, Toyota Etios Liva, new Honda Jazz, Chevrolet Beat Diesel and the Tata Vista are some of the cars that can be considered today.

Each of these models apart from the Etios Liva has been in the Indian car market for quite some time. The Etios Liva is Toyota's first small car from Toyota. Maruti Suzuki has upgraded the Swift with thelatest version that offers more space and better fuel economy. The Honda Jazz is now cheaper than the model it replaces and promises to reverse Honda's flagging sales story. The Tata Vista is new version of the Indica.
