New Swift: Most Anticipated Hatchback In India

The Maruti Suzuki has been one of the most highly anticipated cars in recent history. The hype around the new Swift can be gauged by the fact that Maruti Suzuki received more than 50,000 bookings even before the car was launched and the pricing details were announced.

The new Swift was launched recently on August 17th with a price tag of Rs.4.22 lakhs for the petrol model. Demand for the diesel variant of the new Swift has been overwhelming despite the additional price premium of over Rs.75,000. Maruti Suzuki has said 80 per cent of the bookings for the new Swift have been for the diesel variant.

Maruti Suzuki has said the waiting period for the new swift will be about four months while the petrol variants will be delivered within two months. The new Swift is slightly longer and this increased length has contributed to the improved interior space.

As far as the technical specifications of the new Swift are concerned Maruti Suzuki India has retained the K-Series 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engines. The petrol engine can generate 87bhp at 6000rpm and 114Nm of torque at 4000rpm. The 1.3-litre DdiS diesel engine is capable of churning out 75bhp at 4000rpm and 190Nm of torque at 2000rpm. Both these engines will be mated to a five speed manual gear box.
