The Indian Prime Minister Has Only A Maruti 800

Indian politicians are mostly known mostly for their petty politics, scams, luxury lifestyle and party hopping (the political ones). But recent disclosures of their property has revealed some interesting facts. Some of the ministers in the Indian cabinet own some plush cars and bikes while some cling on the cars that is mostly owned by the common man.

There are several ministers who still own the humble Maruti Suzuki rather than big SUVs. The Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh owns a 1996 Maruti 800 clearly indicating his bureaucratic roots. He might not have to use the 800 much as he is usually chauffeur driven in a plush bullet proof BMW 7-Series. The Prime minister's car is now valued at just Rs.27,500.

In another surprsie of sorts, union defence minister AK Anthony who is known for his simple lifestyle owns a used car. His wife bought a second hand Maruti Suzuki Wagon R which is worth Rs.136,000.

Finance Minister Pranabh Mukherjee is a proud owner of a 2000 Ford Ikon which is touch more expensive and spacious than our prime minister's Maruti 800. The old icon is priced at Rs.1,06,250. Another minister who owns a common man's car is rural development minister Jairam Ramesh who owns a Maruti Zen.
