The Hyundai Eon - Maruti Suzuki Alto Face-off

The Hyundai Eon was touted to be the successor of the Maruti 800 and a competitor of India's best selling car, the Maruti Suzuki Alto. Here is a close look at how the Hyundai Eon faces up to the Alto.
The Alto is the first time buyer's car since several years. Maruti Suzuki's service, low price and wide service network make it an obvious choice for first time buyers. Hyundai intends to challenge this by keeping the Eon's price at just over Rs.2 lakhs. Further the Korean carmaker has said it will open new showrooms across the country to widen its network.
The Alto sold in India is not a radical new design. One can easily say it is just an updated Maruti 00 with some tweaks and a new engine. The Eon on the other hand has a more dynamic design inspired by the Fluidic design concept that was first seen in the new Fluidic Verna
The Alto's interior is not something we need to talk much about. The plastics used are not top notch and are just basic. The Hyundai Eon on the other hand promises to have a more premium look with better plastics and materials. But do not expect premium feel in the Eon too as you will not be shelling out a premium car's price.
Another important factor that we can compare is the interior space. The Maruti Alto is rather cramped for some one who is tall. The Hyundai Eon might deceive you with its small car looks but offers much more space than the Alto. The rear seat is also spacious but it will be a squeeze if it seats three people. Luggage space for a car this size is only adequate for the daily routine.
We have not seen the Hyundai Eon in the flesh yet but when we do we will get you a more comprehensive comparison.
