The Honda City Is Number 1 For A Reason

The Honda City has enjoyed a monopoly on the mid-level sedan market before its competition increased manifold. The Honda City's initial variants were just about basic but had the space and practicality that was better than a hatchback. Honda then made the City more and more stylish and the latest IVTEC variant is proof of that.

The Honda City delivers solid performance while not being outrageous in terms of fuel economy. The City has become a benchmark in terms of mid-level sedans for its reliability, performance, fuel economy and space.

The City is facing competition from models such as the Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Vento and Ford Fiesta. The City lost its way in the middle of this year in terms of sales due to the lack of a diesel engine. Honda has strongly fought back by drastically reducing the price of the City by as much as Rs.66,000. The City is again the number one selling mid-level sedan in India.

The reason behind Honda's continued success is its low maintenance costs and consistent performance. This is a well built model that makes for a perfect ride for a small family. There are a couple of points that go against the City – the obvious lack of a diesel engine and a lack of flair in terms of design. Racing enthusiasts had loved the first generation City for its handling and scope of customisation. The current model does not offer that much scope for customisation.
