Tata Motors Sales Continues To Slide; Down 33%

Tata Motors' passenger car sales stood at 16,829 units in the domestic market registering a 33 per cent decline. Cumulative sales including that of Fiat fell 34 per cent to 17,898 units. Tata Motors has claimed the sales of passenger cars fell following a halt in production of the Nano small car. The company managed to sell just 1.202 units of the Nano which is 85 per cent lower than the sales achieved in August 2010.
Sales of the Indica range of cars fell 4 per cent to 7,206 units while the Indigo registered a 24 per cent decline with 5,100 sales. Surprisingly, the Tata Sumo, Safari, Aria and Venture range of vehicles posted a 15 per cent increase in sales at 3.321 units.
Commercial vehicles sales continued to grow consistently this August after the Indian auto maker sold 43,045 units in the domestic market posting a 21 per cent growth. Light commercial vehicles posted a 27 per cent growth after 26,344 sales. Medium and heavy commercial vehicles sales increased by 12 per cent at 16,701 units. Cumulative sales (including exports) for the company for the fiscal are 320,877 units.registering a growth of 2% over 315,460 nos., sold last year.
The company's exports stood at 4,204 vehicles in August marking a18 per cent decline compared to 5,157 vehicles exported in August last year.
