Upcoming Suzuki Ignis (Compact SUV) Unveiled At Tokyo Motor Show
Suzuki Motors has unveiled an all-new compact SUV called ‘Ignis' at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show*. The concept model was previously showcased at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.
The Ignis compact SUV is based on Suzuki's iM-4 concept model. Suzuki has developed the Ignis as a sub 4-metre compact SUV, which will be introduced in India as well. The Ignis will make its Indian debut at the 2016 Auto Expo and will be launched the following year.
The unveiled model was powered by a 1.2-litre Dual-Jet engine, mated to a CVT gearbox. The engine produces 89.75bhp and 118Nm of peak torque. Suzuki will provide the compact SUV with an optional All-Wheel Drive (AWD) option.

The Ignis is a sub 4-metre compact SUV, and will compete with Mahindra TUV3OO and Ford EcoSport in India. The Ignis will also gain tax advantage just like the competitors, and pricing will be key to the success of this compact SUV.
Regarding design, Suzuki has provided the Ignis compact SUV with a typical SUV-box-like design. Suzuki designers have focussed on providing the sub 4-metre compact SUV with an interesting design language. The design team wants to attract youth as well as urban compact SUV users.
The Ignis, when launched in the Indian market, will be sold exclusively through NEXA dealerships.
*The Tokyo Motor Show opens to the public from 30 October to 8 November.
