Volvo Concept 26: The Relaxed Future Commute - Images

Volvo lifted the veil of its Concept 26 at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The 26 in the name, is for the average commute time in the United States.

Concept 26 is Volvo's vision of what will happen when fully autonomous cars will be driving on the road. The concept is based on Volvo's all-new patented seat design which Volvo claims actively cradles the driver during the transformation phase into one of the three modes: Drive, Create or Relax.

Drive mode is the normal seating position, something we see even today. When the driver wants to delegate the driving duties to the autonomous system, the create or relax mode can be engaged. In Create mode, the steering wheel telescopes in and the driver seat slides back and out pops a tray table where you can put your laptop. In Relax mode, the seat slides and an ottoman deploys.

The center console will slide back in both modes, keeping drivers in touch with the Sensus infotainment system. A rather sizable display will fold out of the dash as well.
