Yamaha PES1 Electric Motorcycle Concept Displayed At Tokyo Motor Show
The recent lean towards electric and hybrid vehicles is not just limited to the four wheeler world. Something that's been proven by mainstream bike manufacturers by their showcases at the EICMA and now at the Tokyo Motor Show.
What's also clear is that traditional bike makers such as Honda, Yamaha and the lot are not ready to let the likes of Zero, Mission and Brammo become the future flag bearers of electric motorcycles. The best example would be this - Yamaha PES1. An electric motorcycle that looks like a concept, but actually runs, as proven by the following official video.

Yamaha PES1 is powered by a lithium-ion battery pack like most electric bikes. However, the battery pack, called Yamaha Smart Power Module, can be easily removed and replaced.
The battery feeds power to a DC brushless motor of unspecified power rating.
Another interesting aspect of PES1 is its lightweight monocoque structure that tips the scales at just 100kg.
The secret behind its lightweight design is the way the chassis functions as both the frame and the body of the motorcycle. The dimension of PES1 is as follows - Length×Width×Height = 1,918 mm×640 mm×1,000 mm
Another interesting feature of Yamaha PES1 is that it includes a transmission system, something that's not common in electric two wheelers. moreover, the transmission can also be switched from manual to automatic.
One last notable feature of Yamaha PES1 is its use of smartphone information service, which is actually the use of smartphones to receive and display all sorts of live data.
Watch the video and let us know what your thoughts about Yamaha PES1 are. Does it make you want one?
