Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo Debuts At Los Angeles Auto Show
Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision is a futuristic concept that debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Unlike most concept cars though, the AMG Vision does not indicate towards a future production car, nor does it showcase a future design philosophy. Instead, it is the full scale working model of a virtual car.

Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo, as the same suggest, is a virtual car that will be a part of the vehicle lineup in Gran Turismo 6. The video game will be released in December for PlayStation 3. The Vision will be provided as a downloadable content.

Developed at the Mercedes-Benz Advanced Design Studios in Sindelfingen and Carlsbad (exterior design) and also in Como, Italy (interior design), Mercedes AMG Vision's design is a tribute to the legendary Merc 300 SL racing car and like it features the trademark gull wing doors.

The Vision concept's design philosophy in Mercedes' on words. "The sports car proportions that are a typical Mercedes feature have been reinterpreted: the long bonnet has a flowing transition into a compact greenhouse offset to the rear, which takes the form of an aerodynamically efficient water drop to descend slightly at the rear, where it rests on the powerful, stylish rear end with broad shoulder contours."

An eye catching detail lies at the front of the Vision concept, which is a reiteration of 300 SL racing car's grille design. Except, here the louvre have been replaced with LED lights, similar to the A-Class diamond grille.
When the daytime running lights are switched on the LEDs light up in typical Mercedes sports car style. But when the racing lights are switched on several green LEDs light up in the background. The video demonstrates how the LED grille functions.

Mercedes speaks of a V8 engine of 585 HP and 800 Nm, but its not clear whether the car also does develop that level of performance or that's the performance figure from Gran Turismo 6. The official video (shown in a later slide) does show the car being driven using a RC car remote controller.

Mercedes also mentions AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed sports transmission and a 1385 kg curb weight, translating into a power to weight ratio of 2.4 kg/HP.

Mercedes Vision also sports AMG ceramic high-performance composite braking system and AMG sports exhaust system with eight tailpipes.

The cabin is on a whole different level of coolness, inspired by a Formula 1 cockpit, with red integral sports seats and a futuristic dashboard.

The dashboard takes the form of two gullwing doors which are positioned on each side of the steering column, giving the appearance of it being an actual extension of the gullwing doors.
It's a pity that a production Mercedes-Benz Vision Gran Turismo will never see the light of day. If you are sorely tempted to drive this beauty your only chance is to order a copy of Gran Turismo 6 and get yourself a Sony PlayStation. Meanwhile, here's the official video that we mentioned earlier.
