Frankfurt - Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe Concept Graces The Show
Mercedes Benz S-Class Coupe is still a concept, but does not look too far from being production ready. Revealed earlier this month through sketches, the S-Class Coupe is the replacement to the CL-Class luxury coupe, but it's not known when that transition will take place.
Gorden Wagener, Vice President Design at Daimler AG, adds: "The Concept S‑Class Coupé combines tradition and emotion, and is a symbol for the embodiment of our design style of sensual clarity. The perfected design with self-assured style and the highly exclusive appointments make the coupé a true design icon and an expression of modern luxury."
At its core, Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe is an S-Class saloon with two doors. It boroughs the stately elegance of the luxury saloon. The headlights, for example, are distinctly S-Cass. The sheer size of the car is reminiscent of its four door cousin.
At the same time, the coupe concept has its own distinct characteristics. The bonnet is longer and the side profile looks even more sleek and flowing than the saloon. Maybe it's because it's still in its concept clothing. As with all Merc coupes, this one loses the sedan's bonnet mounted three-star badge, instead wearing the logo proudly on the grille.
The S-Class coupe cocnept is powered by a 4.6-liter V8 Biturbo engine rated at 449 HP and 700 Nm of peak torque.
The interior overwhelmingly sensuous and beautiful, full of flowing lines. The instruments and electronics, including the large 12.3 inch colour screens are the same as the sedan. There is also a world clock. The interior has been crafted from several high grade materials, including calfskin and silk.
The car also gets Mercedes-Benz "Intelligent Drive". It features two "camera eyes" that can scan get a three-dimensional view of the area up to about 50 meters in front of the vehicle. Meanwhile, the "6DVision" can detect the position and movement of objects up to 500 meters (0.31mi) around the car. The data from all the sensors, including radar and ultrasound sensors are combined to aid the driver. Even the system system makes use of this to adjust accordingly depending on road irregularities.
