Piaggio Could Begin Assembly Of Aprilia In India To Reduce Price
Aprilia, the Piaggio owned Italian performance bike manufacturer, currently brings its products to India via the CBU route. This means the motorcycles get charged high import duty and other additional taxes, which result in a final retail price that is 140 percent of what the motorcycles would cost if assembled locally.

All the five Aprilia motorcycles - the RSV4, Tuono V4, Dorsoduro, Mana and the SRV - cost over INR 10 lakhs which take them out of the reach of most enthusiasts which ultimately is loss for the company.

The only solution to this problem is to assemble the motorcycles locally, which is exactly Piaggio is contemplating. Speaking to Business Standard, Ravi Chopra, chairman and managing director, Piaggio Vehicles has revealed that the company could begin assembling Aprilia motorcycles from complete knock-down kits, making the bikes more affordable.

To further increase its presence and brand reach in the country new Aprilia showrooms will also be opened in Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Mumbai.
Apart from Aprilia Piaggio is also likely to begin local assembly of Moto Guzzi branded motorcycles in India.
