Honda Activa Beats Hero Splendor, Now India’s Best Selling Two Wheeler
Hero Splendor has long been India's number one two-wheeler, but those days might be coming to an end. Hero's rival and former partner Honda has for long had a success story of its own in the form of the Activa automatic scooter. After over a decade of excellent sales, we could finally witness India's most loved scooter dethroning India's best selling two wheeler, the Splendor.
Honda Activa has already beat the Splendor (100cc) twice in the financial year 2013-14. The first time was in September 2013 and then once again in March 2014.

In March 2014 Honda sold 177,928 units of the Activa, whereas Hero sold 163,778 units of the Splendor 100cc models. It should not be long before the scooter consistently sells better than the commuter motorcycle.
In fact, while Honda is selling more Activa scooters, Hero is selling fewer Splendor models. Sales of the commuter bike fell down by five per cent in FY14, while the Activa's grew by 39 percent during the same period. This reflects the increase in popularity of scooters in recent years.
Ease of handling, particularly in congested and traffic infested cities, ability to be used by every member of the family and better utility features have made more and more people opt for scooter over motorcycles, which are primarily male oriented.
190,000 units of Splendor range, including the 125cc Super Splendor, were sold in March. At present the sales of the Super Splendor are not compared with the Activa, but that will change once Honda brings the Activa 125 in a few weeks. Honda is already confident that its new Activa model will beat the 125cc Splendor hands down.
