There was a time when the word scooter and Bajaj had become synonymous. In fact, the word Bajaj was used to refer to any scooter when I was growing up. Although such days will probably not be back, at least Bajaj's scooters will be back. Bajaj Auto is reportedly developing a new automatic scooter named as the Kristal.

The Bajaj Kristal is not a new name. Bajaj had launched an automatic scooter named as Kristal way back in 2007. While Bajaj getting back to building scooters sounds logical considering the fast growing market, it is in a way surprising following the statements made by Bajaj Auto's MD Mr.Rajiv Bajaj.

Mr Bajaj had categorically denied any plans to re-enter the scooter segment in several interviews to the media. He had said Bajaj was happy being a specialist of building motorcycles and does not want to venture in to any segment where margins are low. We would like to remind you that Mr Bajaj has set a target of achieving profits of 20% after taxes.

Now, Autocar Pro has revealed that Bajaj Auto is developing an automatic scooter that will be launched in a matter of months.
