Yamaha YZF-R2 Launched At Rs 2.30 Lakh

Yamaha has launched the YZF-R2 in India at Rs 2.30 lakh, slotting it above the YZF-R15 in the brand's sportbike line-up. The Yamaha YZF-R2 is the company's first major new launch in the segment in a long while and comes in three variants.

The YZF-R2 will be sold exclusively through Yamaha's Blue Square network. Prices start at Rs 2.30 lakh for the base variant and go up to Rs 2.53 lakh for the top-spec R2 M. Pre-bookings for the motorcycle had opened earlier for a token amount of Rs 10,000.

Yamaha YZF-R2: Engine & Performance

The Yamaha YZF-R2 is built on an all-new platform powered by a 204cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled DOHC engine. It produces 26.5hp at 10,000rpm and 19.3Nm at 8,000rpm, output that Yamaha says is slightly higher than the KTM RC 200 and Hero Karizma XMR while torque stays similar.

The valves get a diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating, a feature carried over from the erstwhile flagship YZF-R1. Yamaha claims a seat height of 810mm and a kerb weight of 149kg, making the R2 the lightest motorcycle in its segment.

Yamaha YZF-R2: Features & Variants

Standard kit on the base Yamaha YZF-R2 variant includes a ride-by-wire throttle with three ride modes, an assist-and-slipper clutch, 37mm USD forks and dual-channel ABS. A 5-inch TFT display and traction control, both seen on the R15 M, also feature.

The mid-spec variant of the Yamaha YZF-R2 adds a bi-directional quickshifter, a segment first, along with body-coloured alloy wheels. The range-topping Yamaha YZF-R2 M gets adjustable front and rear suspension, adjustable brake and clutch levers, a faux-suede seat and a smart keyless system. Each of the three variants gets its own distinct colours.
