Yamaha EC-06 Electric Scooter: Should You Consider It Over TVS, Bajaj & Ather?
Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer Yamaha has entered India's electric scooter segment with the launch of the EC-06, a family-oriented EV based on the River Indie EV. The River brand manufactures the EC-06 for Yamaha in India. The new scooter focuses on practicality, comfort, and city-friendly performance.
Yamaha EC-06 Electric Scooter: Key Highlights
City-Capable Powertrain
The EC-06 is powered by a 4 kWh battery pack borrowed from the River Indie EV and claims a maximum range of up to 169 km on a single charge. The scooter can reach a top speed of 79 km/h. Its electric motor produces 6.7 kW of power and 26 Nm of torque. Charging from 0 to 80% takes 8 hours, while charging from 0 to 100% takes approximately 10 hours.

Premium Design and Styling
The EC-06 follows the same family-oriented design philosophy as the River Indie. It features a large LED headlamp that offers strong illumination and visibility. The scooter also gets a long, plush seat that provides nice space for both the rider and the pillion. The spacious legroom further enhances comfort, making it suitable for daily commuting and city rides.
Practical Features
The scooter offers good practicality for everyday use. It comes with a 24.5-litre under-seat storage compartment that can accommodate daily essentials. Additional highlights include alloy wheels, telescopic front suspension with hydraulic dampers, and a rear coil spring suspension with hydraulic dampers that provides comfort even on uneven roads and potholes.

Safety and Technology
The EC-06 is equipped with several safety and technology features, including a combined braking system, disc brakes at both the front and rear, an IP67 rating for the motor and battery, and an IP65 rating for other electronic components.
It also gets tubeless tyres, Yamaha Y-Connect app connectivity, a fully digital speedometer, multiple riding modes (Eco, Standard, and Power), and 14-inch alloy wheels. These Features provide maximum safety and sophisticated technology for the users.

Pricing and Verdict
Yamaha has priced the EC-06 at ₹1.67 lakh (ex-showroom). While it may not be the most feature-packed offering in its segment, it does deliver strong practicality along with Yamaha's brand reliability. For daily commuting and city usage, the EC-06 can be a suitable option.
However, the pricing could have been more aggressive, as competitors such as TVS, Ola Electric, Bajaj, Hero Vida, and Ather Energy offer electric scooters with more advanced features, longer range, and newer technologies at more competitive price points below 1.5 lakhs (ex-showroom).
