Volkswagen Confirms Tayron R-Line Launch In India For Q1 2026
German automaker Volkswagen has confirmed that it will launch the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line in India by the first quarter of 2026. The SUV will arrive via the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route and will be locally assembled in India. This car will be the premium SUV offering from the brand for the Indian market.
Volkswagen Tayron R Line Confirmed For India
The Tayron R-Line will become Volkswagen's only seven-seater SUV in the Indian market, following the discontinuation of the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace in 2021 due to poor sales. In terms of size and positioning, the Tayron R-Line is significantly larger than the Tiguan R-Line and competes with SUVs such as the Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian, and the Hyundai Tucson. The SUV will be assembled at Volkswagen Group's manufacturing facility in Maharashtra.

Globally, the Tayron is offered with multiple powertrain options, including petrol and hybrid variants. For India, Volkswagen is expected to use the 2.0-litre TSI EVO petrol engine, which produces 204 PS of power and 320 Nm of torque. This engine is likely to be paired with a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox, with Volkswagen's 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system expected on select variants to improve traction and mild off-road capability.
Some Key highlights include a large 15-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system, dual-tone leatherette upholstery, a centre console with physical controls, a head-up display, sporty seats and steering wheel, wireless charging, ambient lighting, and a clean, well-designed dashboard.

The SUV is also expected to offer features such as wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, electrically adjustable front seats with ventilation and memory function, three-zone climate control, a large panoramic sunroof, a premium Harman audio system, Level 2 ADAS technology, and up to seven airbags.
The Volkswagen Tayron R-Line is expected to be priced between 45 lakh and 50 lakh (ex-showroom), positioning it as the brand's flagship SUV for India. Currently, Volkswagen's Indian lineup includes the Volkswagen Taigun, Volkswagen Virtus, and the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line.
