VinFast Plans EV Scooter Launch In India By 2026: Report
Vietnamese EV manufacturer VinFast is reportedly set to enter the Indian two-wheeler market later this year with its electric scooters. According to an Autocar India report, the upcoming EVs are being specifically developed to suit Indian road conditions and consumer preferences.
VinFast To Enter the EV Two-Wheeler Segment
VinFast is already present in India with its electric cars, which are assembled at its Tuticorin plant in Tamil Nadu. The company is now looking to expand into the electric two-wheeler segment, a space currently dominated by domestic players such as TVS Motor Company, Bajaj Auto, Hero MotoCorp, Ather Energy, and Ola Electric.

VinFast's entry is expected to intensify competition, as the brand is among the global players in electric scooter manufacturing and sales. To support its two-wheeler ambitions, VinFast is reportedly planning to expand its manufacturing capacity with a dedicated EV two-wheeler production line.
While the company is already planning to increase its four-wheeler production capacity to 1.5 lakh units annually, its long-term vision for electric two-wheelers is far higher. Considering India's vast market potential, the company is reportedly targeting annual EV two-wheeler production of up to 1 million units.

VinFast is also said to be in discussions with local suppliers to reduce production costs further and improve localisation. Increased localisation would not only help reduce costs but also improve after-sales service availability and long-term ownership experience.
The upcoming electric scooters are being developed after extensive studies of Indian user behaviour, road infrastructure, and price sensitivity, ensuring a product specifically for the Indian market. The company is also evaluating incentives under the Indian government's PLI and PM E-DRIVE schemes, which support new EV investments.

In Vietnam, VinFast has been selling a wide range of electric scooters, including the VeroX, Feliz, Evo, Evo Grand, Evo Grand Lite, Flazz, and ZGoo, for several years. These models could be reworked or adapted for India, as they offer a good battery range and advanced technology.
In addition to scooters, VinFast reportedly plans to introduce three new electric cars in India by 2026, including the VF 5 hatchback, VF 3 micro EV, and the Limo Green MPV, which could be sold primarily for commercial purposes.
