TVS Motor Company has launched the new TVS Orbiter V1, with the brand's Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) program to make the scooter more accessible to buyers. With this model, the Orbiter V1 is priced at ₹49,999 (ex-showroom), making it one of the most affordable electric scooters in the Indian market.

The Orbiter is already positioned as an entry-level electric scooter, and the new V1 variant aims to reduce the upfront cost for customers. Here are some of the key features and highlights of the Orbiter V1 compared to the regular Orbiter V2.

1. TVS BaaS Program

TVS is offering the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model for the Orbiter V1, significantly lowering the initial purchase price. Under this program, the scooter costs ₹49,999 instead of ₹84,999 (ex-showroom) because the battery is provided through a subscription plan rather than being included in the vehicle price.

Customers can subscribe to the battery through a monthly plan starting at ₹862 for 60 months. TVS also provides a 5-year or 70,000 km warranty for the battery under this program, ensuring peace of mind for buyers.

2. Smaller Battery Pack

The Orbiter V1 is equipped with a smaller 1.8 kWh battery pack, compared to the 3.1 kWh battery pack in the Orbiter V2. Due to the reduced battery capacity, the scooter offers a claimed IDC range of around 86 km.

In real-world riding conditions, the range is expected to be around 50-60 km, making the scooter suitable mainly for short city commutes and daily urban use. The smaller battery pack helps keep the scooter affordable and practical for urban riders. The battery can reach 0 to 80% charging in just 2 hours and 20 minutes.

3. Premium Tech & Connectivity

Despite being an entry-level variant, the Orbiter V1 continues to offer several modern connectivity features. These include TVS SmartXonnect, a 5.5-inch LCD instrument cluster, turn-by-turn navigation, riding modes (Eco and City), incoming call and message alerts, OTA updates, nearby charging station finder, geo-fencing, anti-theft alerts, tow alerts, crash alerts, and live location sharing.

4. Excellent Comfort

The Orbiter V1 uses the same chassis and suspension setup as the V2 variant. It comes with 90/90-14 tyres, alloy wheels, a long and comfortable 845 mm flat seat, and a spacious 290 mm footboard that gives a more relaxed riding position.

The scooter also features an upright handlebar for a relaxed riding posture and 164 mm of ground clearance, allowing it to handle various road conditions comfortably. The wide and well-cushioned seat provides a comfortable experience for pillion riders.

5. Unmatched Practicality

The Orbiter V1 is designed to offer excellent practicality for everyday use. It features a segment-leading 34-litre boot space, which can accommodate two helmets. Additional features include cruise control for maintaining a steady speed, hill-hold assist for added safety, reverse parking assist for easier maneuvering, a USB charging port, and an easy-access storage box for essentials.
