The year 2026 has begun, and it is expected to be an exciting one for the Indian automobile market. Several brands are anticipated to perform strongly, particularly in the rapidly growing electric vehicle segment. Here is a look at some of the automobile brands expected to make headlines in 2026.
Top Auto Brands Expected To Make Big in 2026
Norton Motorcycles
TVS-owned British motorcycle brand Norton Motorcycles is set to make its India debut this year. The iconic brand, known for its big legacy similar to Royal Enfield, will be positioned as a premium motorcycle brand in the country.
At EICMA 2025, Norton showcased its upcoming motorcycles, including the Norton Manx series and Atlas series. The Norton Manx series is expected to be launched in India by April 2026. The premium 1200cc superbike will be manufactured in the UK and will be imported as a CBU.
Meanwhile, the Atlas series will be manufactured locally at TVS' Hosur facility. The Atlas series is expected to carry a 500cc engine and could be priced lower than the ManX series. This Adventure motorcycle is expected to arrive by mid or later part of 2026 and will compete in the premium middle weight motorycle category.
Tesla
American electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla has finally begun selling cars in India after a long tussle with the Indian government over high import duties. Currently, Tesla does not have a manufacturing facility in India and continues to import its vehicles, and hence it commands a higher price for its Model Y.
Apart from the Model Y, Tesla plans to bring the Model 3, Model S, and Model X to India. Despite government incentives for brands willing to establish local manufacturing, Tesla has not yet announced any plans for local production. However, it will be interesting to see whether the brand partners with a local manufacturer to make its cars more cost-effective and accessible to the mass market consumers.
BYD
Global EV giant BYD continues to grow in India's premium electric car segment. Models such as the Atto 3, Seal, Sealion 7, and eMAX 7 have received strong sales numbers. The company has already crossed 10,000 deliveries in India and is witnessing rapid growth, competing with Hyundai, MG, Volvo, and Kia.
This year, we are expecting the brand to bring more products or update its existing EV lineup. We are also expecting a small ev car from the brand, specifically made for the indian customers.
Hyundai Motors
Hyundai Motor India recently lost its No. 2 position to Mahindra, moving to fourth place in overall passenger vehicle sales. However, the brand continues to lead the compact SUV segment with the Hyundai Creta.

The e-Vitara will be Maruti's official entry into the EV space, competing with Tata and Mahindra's electric SUV cars. These models are expected to be developed as production models this year and may be launched by late 2026. Renault & Nissan
After staying quiet for a long time, sister brands Renault and Nissan are preparing for a strong comeback in India. Renault will reintroduce its popular Duster compact SUV on January 26, 2026.
