Suzuki To Revive Gixxer Series With Major Updates, India Launch Expected Soon
Japanese automobile brand Suzuki is reportedly working on a new-generation Gixxer series, with the launch expected by the end of this year or early 2027. The last-generation Gixxer 150 and 250 motorcycles were launched back in 2019, making this update a much-needed one.
Suzuki Reviving Gixxer Series
Suzuki Motorcycle is currently facing a slump in Gixxer series sales, as the motorcycle lineup looks outdated and has seen no significant updates over the past few years, apart from new liveries and paint schemes. The Gixxer series has remained largely unchanged with its existing 150cc and 250cc engines.
Currently, Suzuki is heavily reliant on the Access 125 for sales. Apart from the scooter, the rest of its lineup appears stagnant when compared to competitors. The V-Strom SX is generating decent sales numbers, but it is still not enough for the brand to strongly compete in the highly competitive Indian market.
Meanwhile, rivals such as Honda, Yamaha, Bajaj, KTM, and TVS have moved ahead with fresh launches, updated designs, and performance improvements. Several reports now suggest that Suzuki is developing a new platform for the Gixxer lineup, with a new-generation engine, design, and features.
The next-generation motorcycles are expected to be powered by a more powerful engine and feature a new design language that could be inspired by Suzuki's GSX series motorcycles sold in overseas markets. The engine could have a liquid-cooling system replacing the oil-cooled setup used in the current-generation models.
Suzuki is also expected to introduce modern technology features such as a TFT instrument console, Bluetooth connectivity, navigation, ride-by-wire, mounted controls, traction control, dual-channel ABS, and a USB charging facility.
The current Gixxer 250 bikes share their engine with the Suzuki Entry-level adventure motorcycle, the V-Strom SX. Once the new-generation models are launched, the V-Strom SX is also expected to receive the updated engine and new features.
